The Canadian Tarot Network Certification Committee certifies qualified tarot readers as having
achieved the following goals:
- CERTIFIED APPRENTICE TAROT READER (CATR)
- Can explain the meanings of the 78 Tarot cards in upright position
- Can demonstrate readings of 1, 2, 3, and 4 cards
- Can outline a brief history of the Tarot
- Understands and adopts the accepted code of ethics of the CTN
- CERTIFIED TAROT READER (CTR)
- Has qualified as a Certified Apprentice Tarot Reader
- Can explain three ways of using inverted Tarot cards
and demonstrate one OR can explain and demonstrate an alternate
method such as dignitaries OR a personal method of
expanding from 78 Tarot card meanings to 156 Tarot card meanings.
- Can explain how to rephrase impossible
questions and when it is appropriate to do so and when
it is not
- Can demonstrate 5, 6, 7 and 8 card readings
- Can briefly explain when one should use 1, 2,
3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 card readings
- Has written one's own code of ethics
- CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL TAROT READER (CPTR)
- Has qualified as a Certified Tarot Reader
- Can demonstrate spreads of more than 8 cards
- Has given and recorded a minimum of 30 professional
readings of more than 3 cards (in a serious professional setting
of a quality one would be willing to pay for)
- Can explain how to deal with difficult clients
in a positive way
- Has compiled a list of local, national, or
international resource phone numbers, depending on the
radius of your professional readings (i.e. locally,
online, telephone) to assist your clients in
finding help (such as abuse of any kind, legal, addictions,
and other medical, mental, and physical problems)
- Can explain how their code of ethics has
evolved to a professional code of ethics
- CERTIFIED TAROT MASTER (CTM)
- Has qualified and been a Certified Professional Tarot Reader for at least six months
- Has written and published at least 3 each of: Tarot articles, Tarot book reviews, and Tarot Deck reviews
- Has demonstrated mastery of the tarot deck, including attributing the 22 Major Arcana to another
esoteric or occult paradigm (can be used as one of the
3 articles)
- Has written an outline for teaching the Tarot to a beginner (can be used as one of the 3 articles)
- Has taught 10 people or more to read the tarot deck to at least a level of CATR (or equivilant)
- Can explain or has written out how one's code of ethics applies to what one writes and publishes as well as how one deals with peers
- CERTIFIED TAROT INSTRUCTOR (CTI)
- Has qualified and been a Certified Tarot Master for at least one year
- Has taught at 30 people or more to read the tarot deck to at least the level of CATR (or equivilant)
- Serve as a mentor, coordinator or moderator
for a tarot group either online or locally for a
period of one year
- Has written a complete curriculum for teaching the
tarot to intermediate students.
- Has written a teacher/student code of ethics
- CERTIFIED TAROT GRANDMASTER (CTGM)
- Has qualified and been a CTI for a minimum of 2 years.
- Has establish a national or international reputation as a tarot expert, author, or teacher
- Has coordinated, organized, or lectured at
least 2 conferences
- Has served positively on any tarot group,
committee or board for minimum 1 year
- Has written a code of ethics for working with groups
and communicating with peers
